There will be separate camps for high school students and middle schoolers . The high school camps will consist of five full days of continuous drawing. The emphasis will be on improving skills such as life drawing, character design, creating stronger character poses, storyboards, layouts and perspective. For those students who want to continue on with art school this is a great opportunity to develop a portfolio. Timing and movement in animation will also be stressed with hands-on exercises and mini-projects.

Middle school artists will learn to construct characters and draw them with personality and expression. We will also experiment with animation and movement.

The site of the camps will be the Susquehanna Art Museum, 301 Market Street, Harrisburg. The Cartoon Tycoon produces 2-D and 3-D animation for national clients such as MTV, ABC Sports, The Discovery Channel, ESPN and NBA Entertainment. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside professional animators during camp and get a feel for the animation production process within a working studio.

Who should sign up?

Besides students who simply have an interest in learning about animation, this camp is a must for anyone considering an art/design career in:

traditional animation
computer animation
