Character animation is more than simply sliding an object across the screen. By using gesture and expression the object comes to life in a realistic and appealing way . It has its own personality. That can only be done with frame by frame attention to motion and pose. Back in the time when all animation was drawn by hand that attention to detail was easy--all the frames had to be drawn anyway. It just took the skill and sensitivity of the artist to add the nuances. In the age of computers it's too easy for computer animators to simply let the computer do all the work of making the object move. The operator picks the starting point and the ending point and tells the computer to fill in the in-between moves. That might work if a 3-D logo is merely to fly across the screen, but not if you want it to dance! We at The Cartoon Tycoon enjoy the kind of attention to detail that great character animation requires and love to see inanimate objects come to life. |
